São Carlos Goes to School: Conservatório de Música de Loulé Hosts Opera Promotion Initiative
The Conservatório de Loulé hosted the 'São Carlos vai à Escola' initiative, a program by the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos to promote its history and that of opera.
São Carlos Goes to School: History and Curiosities of Portugal's Opera House
The Conservatório de Música de Loulé - Francisco Rosado had the honor of hosting, on June 2, 2026, the «São Carlos vai à Escola» initiative. This is an outreach program promoted by the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos (TNSC), designed within the framework of its complementary activities.
Since the historic TNSC building is temporarily closed to the public for a major conservation, restoration, and modernization project under the PRR, the institution is taking its mission to schools. The main objective of this initiative is to promote music and the history of São Carlos, cultivate a taste for Opera, and demystify the idea that the operatic genre is inaccessible in Portugal.
The activity took place in an informal conversation/lecture format. It was conducted by Jorge Rodrigues, a member of the São Carlos Choir and speaker for the TNSC, under the theme "History and curiosities of the Opera House of Portugal".
The initiative was entirely free for our school community, being offered by OPART/TNSC as part of their public educational service. In order to reach the largest possible number of students, the Conservatory coordinated with the TNSC to hold two distinct sessions on the same day, with each presentation lasting approximately 40 minutes.
