The Final of the X International Saxophone Competition “Vítor Santos”, an integral part of the Palmela International Saxophone Festival (FISP), took place at Cineteatro S. João. The event, held on July 7, honored young people in the field of saxophone and was broadcast live on the festival's official channel and on the “Adolphesax.com” channel.
In the Children's Category, the 1st prize was awarded to Gabriel Shumov, a 6th-year student, supervised by Professor Carlos Ramalho. This category featured participants from Portugal, the United Kingdom, Lithuania, and China, with five finalists from three different countries.
The competition jury was composed of a panel of internationally renowned musicians, including Vítor Santos (honorary president), Mario Marzi, Alberto Roque, Ana Irene Rodrigues, Carlos Canhoto, Fernando Ferreira, Fernando Ramos, Hélder Alves, Henrique Portovedo, Jean-Yves Fourmeau, Jorge Sousa, José Magalhães, Luís Ribeiro, Mário Marques, Naomi Sullivan, Ricardo Pires and Kenneth Tse.
As part of the distinction obtained, Gabriel Shumov will have the opportunity to perform as a soloist with a wind orchestra in the “Young Soloists” concert, during the 11th edition of FISP, scheduled for 2027.
