Rem Urasin

Rem Urasin is an internationally acclaimed pianist whose work spans concert performance, recording, artistic direction, and large-scale conceptual projects. Born in Kazan, he developed his musical outlook in a culturally diverse environment that continues to inform his artistic perspective.

A laureate of major international competitions — including the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, the Monte Carlo Piano Masters Grand Prix, the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition, and the Sydney International Piano Competition — Urasin has built a distinguished international career. In 2006, he was named People's Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan, and in 2020 he received the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland for his contribution to the promotion of Chopin's legacy.

Urasin is among the very few pianists in history to have performed the complete works of Frédéric Chopin, including solo pieces, chamber music, vocal compositions, and works for piano and orchestra. His eleven-concert cycle *Frédéric Chopin. Complete Works* (2009–2010) stands as a landmark achievement in Chopin interpretation. His complete recording of the Chopin Mazurkas for Brilliant Classics has accumulated over five million views on YouTube, reaching a broad international audience.

He has performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, Australia, and Russia, collaborating with leading orchestras such as the Russian National Orchestra, Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. His artistic partners have included Mikhail Pletnev, Maxim Vengerov, Mischa Maisky, Julian Rachlin, and Antoni Wit.

Alongside his performing career, Urasin has created numerous transcriptions and arrangements of works by Tchaikovsky, Borodin, Shostakovich, Schubert, Fauré, and others, as well as music by Tatar composers.

Urasin is Artistic Director of the Sviatoslav Richter Foundation Music and Arts Festival in Tarusa and founder of the International Summer School of Art of the Richter Foundation. Since 2022, he has been living in Portugal, continuing his international activity and promoting Portuguese musical heritage through performances, transcriptions, and collaborations with local musicians.
